Tragic Day for Horndean Technology College as Two Year 9 Pupils Die in Unrelated Incidents
Heartbreak hit Horndean Technology College (HTC) in Hampshire after two Year 9 pupils died in separate, unrelated incidents — both on the same day. The school broke the devastating news on Sunday evening, confirming the deaths occurred on Monday, July 7.
Shock as Two Students Lose Lives Outside School
HTC was quick to make clear that neither tragedy happened on school grounds, and there’s no connection between the two incidents. Details around what exactly happened have not been released.
“We are sad to share with you that two of our Year 9 students passed away on Monday 7 July, in unrelated incidents outside of College,” the school’s statement read.
“Both students were valued members of HTC, and we will all miss them greatly.”
School and Community Rally Amid Mourning
In response to the double blow, HTC has rolled out support services for students, staff, and families. The college is helping parents navigate this tough time with guidance on how to support their children. Floral tributes are being accepted at the school’s main reception throughout the week.
“We understand that families will want to support their children through this extremely difficult time and below we have provided some links to useful resources to help in conversations.”
“In due course, we will be considering how best to remember and celebrate both students’ lives in College.”
Local Churches Offer Space for Reflection
Communities have come together in sympathy. Local churches near the school, including Holy Trinity Church in Blendworth, have opened their doors for quiet reflection. The Revd Richard Hutchins, Vicar of the United Benefice of Catherington and Clanfield, has set up tealights and a prayer tree for those wishing to pay tribute.
Tributes Pour In as Police Stay Silent
The school continues to receive flowers and tokens of support. Hampshire Police have yet to comment publicly on the deaths. The Metro has reached out for further details.
