Hounslow Police Station Locked Down After Fentanyl Scare
A serious emergency was sparked at Hounslow Police Station Thursday afternoon after a staff member fell critically ill from suspected exposure to hazardous fumes.
Swift Evacuation and Hazard Team Response
The drama unfolded around 3:30 PM, forcing a full evacuation of the building. A heavy cordon was put up as London’s Fire Brigade hazardous materials team rushed to the scene to contain the threat.
Specialist HART paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and doctors from London Air Ambulance also raced in to assist the stricken officer.
Fentanyl Fumes Spark Serious Health Risk
The ill staff member is believed to have inhaled fumes from fentanyl — a powerful synthetic opioid that’s deadly in tiny quantities. The exact source and how the chemical was released remain under investigation.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed specialist paramedics treated at least one person onsite but declined to reveal their current condition. It’s unclear if anyone else was affected.
Met Confirms Suspicious Parcel Contained Unknown Powder
Met spokesperson: “Hounslow Police Station’s front office was temporarily closed at 15:30hrs on Thursday, 20 February due to a parcel received which contained an unknown powder. The London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade attended as a precaution. No one was injured, and the area was deemed safe. The incident has now been stood down.”
Despite this statement, the fate of the staff member taken ill and whether it links to the parcel remains unconfirmed. The police station is still closed as investigations continue, with authorities urging the public to steer clear until it’s declared safe.
