Fire Sparks Mass Evacuation at Disney World’s Epcot
Chaos erupted at Walt Disney World’s Epcot on Saturday evening as a thick plume of black smoke billowed from a backstage fire.
The blaze broke out in a walk-in cooler behind the popular France Pavilion, home to the hit attraction Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. Though the fire never reached public areas, hundreds of guests nearby were quickly evacuated amid the smoke scare.
Ratatouille Ride Guests Rushed Out
Visitors riding the 4D Ratatouille-themed attraction were abruptly pulled from the ride as emergency crews tackled the fire. Scores of onlookers and fans in the surrounding section were also ordered to evacuate as a safety precaution.
Fire Contained Fast, No Injuries
The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Fire Department confirmed the fire was fully extinguished by 7:20pm, allowing normal park operations to resume later that evening. Officials said the flames started in a backstage refrigeration unit, but fortunately no injuries were reported.
“The safety of our guests and cast members is always our highest priority. We are grateful to emergency crews who responded swiftly and effectively,” a Disney spokesperson said.
Spring Break Rush Nearly Disrupted
The fire hit during one of the busiest times of year for Disney World. Spring Break typically draws over 100,000 visitors on weekends, raising fears of chaos.
Thankfully, quick evacuation procedures and prompt fire response minimised disruption. The France Pavilion remains a top hotspot, boasting new dining options, the Ratatouille ride, and a scaled Eiffel Tower replica.
Social media lit up with photos and videos of huge smoke clouds, but Disney’s swift action ensured the night ended safely with minimal trouble for park-goers.
