Hundreds Turn Out for Emotional HIV Vigil in Brighton
Tonight, hundreds gathered at New Steine Gardens to pay tribute to those lost to HIV locally and worldwide. The annual Candlelight Vigil brought the community together in a moving show of remembrance and solidarity.

Brighton’s MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle, Mayor Lizzie Deane, and Ian Green, Chief Executive of the Terrence Higgins Trust, all attended the event. Green delivered a powerful speech honouring those who have died and highlighting ongoing challenges.
Community World AIDS Day Partnership Leads the Way
The Community World AIDS Day Partnership, established in 2009, organised the vigil alongside the Reading of Names – a poignant moment recognising local people who lost their lives to HIV. The partnership includes a host of local groups and charities such as the Brighton AIDS Memorial Project, Frontline AIDS, Sussex Beacon, and others.
Brighton & Hove Rainbow Fund Supports Vigil Every Year
The Brighton & Hove Rainbow Fund holds an annual gate collection to help cover costs for staging the vigil. The event features the iconic Brighton AIDS Memorial, emotional readings, and moving classical music to close the evening.
