Hundreds Gather for Emotional HIV Vigil in Brighton

More than a hundred people came together last night in New Steine Gardens to remember those lost to HIV, both locally and worldwide. The moving candlelight vigil paid tribute to the lives taken by the virus and sparked hope for the future.

Local Stars Join the Cause

Brighton MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle, Brighton Mayor Lizzie Deane, and Ian Green, Chief Executive of the Terrence Higgins Trust, were among those attending. Ian Green delivered a stirring speech that resonated deeply with everyone present.

Honouring Lives Lost with Reading of Names

The Community World AIDS Day Partnership once again led this year’s memorial event. Alongside the candlelight vigil, there was a poignant reading of names of people from the area who have died with HIV. This deeply personal tribute has become a cherished tradition.

Over a Decade of Support and Solidarity

Founded in 2009, the partnership organises the annual vigil at the Brighton AIDS Memorial in New Steine Gardens. The first event captivated the community with a new memorial, dramatic red fabric decorations, and beautiful classical music. The Brighton & Hove Rainbow Fund also holds a gate collection every year to help cover staging costs.
