163 Families Contacted Over Hessle Road Funeral Scandal
Police have identified 163 families connected to the chilling Legacy Funeral Directors case. Authorities are now reaching out to update relatives and discuss the future of ashes recovered from the Hessle Road premises.
DNA Testing on Ashes Hits Dead End
In a blow to investigators, forensic experts revealed it’s impossible to extract DNA from the ashes due to the extreme temperatures during cremation. The intense heat destroys DNA, making identification via scientific means futile.
Families Offered Support in Personal Meetings
Despite the DNA dead end, police have combed through records to identify next of kin. Officers are holding face-to-face meetings with affected families to explain options, offer support, and navigate the difficult decisions ahead.
Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin said: “We withheld public updates until we could personally contact families. This remains a deeply sensitive matter, and compassion is our priority.”
Hull City Council and East Riding Council officers also attend these discussions, ensuring families get all the help they need.
No Pressure on Families Over Ashes
Families face a tough choice: to accept the ashes or not. Authorities stress there is no right or wrong decision. Each family’s emotional response is unique, and support will continue throughout this complex ordeal.
