Armed officers have swooped on Leed Street in Sandown again, marking the third lockdown in as many weeks. Fully geared with guns drawn and ballistic shields, officers from both the Isle of Wight and mainland rushed to the scene in a high-tension armed response.
Welfare Call Sparks Heavy Police Presence
The dramatic operation was triggered by a call expressing concern for a resident’s welfare. Despite the police blitz, no arrests have been made and no weapon was found during a thorough search of the property. Police have reportedly also visited a second nearby address.
Police Statement and Ongoing Patrols
“We were called at 9:15pm on Friday 17 May to reports of a man with a weapon on Leed Street in Sandown,” a Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said. “Specialist officers conducted enquiries and spoke to a man, but no weapon was located and no offences were identified. The Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out regular patrols in the area.”
Residents remain on edge as the police maintain a strong presence in the town, keeping a close eye on the situation.
