Italian nurses battling the relentless coronavirus outbreak have shared harrowing photos showing the physical toll of their work. Many are left with painful bruises from wearing face masks for hours on end.
Fear and Fatigue Take Their Toll
One nurse, Ms Bonari, opened up about the mental strain. She admitted, “I’m afraid to go to work. I worry the mask might not fit properly, or I might accidentally touch myself with contaminated gloves. I fear the lenses don’t fully protect my eyes and something might get through.”
Unbreakable Spirit Despite the Struggle
“I am psychologically tired, as are all my colleagues who have faced the same gruelling conditions for weeks. But this won’t stop us from doing our job as we always have. I will keep caring for my patients because I am proud and committed to my work.”
