Storm Chaos Strikes Kent: Floods, Fallen Trees, and Travel Mayhem!

Roads Underwater and Blocked by Debris

High winds and lashings of rain have thrown Kent’s morning commute into turmoil. In Wye, the A28 Canterbury Road is underwater and impassable both ways from Spearpoint Corner to Whitehill and Bramble Lane.

Over in Folkestone, a fallen tree has completely blocked Radnor Park West Road, forcing drivers onto a diversion. Earlier today, another tree took down the A2070 at the Tenterden Turnoff, though that’s now cleared.

Flood Warnings Still in Force

Two flood alerts remain active: one along the East Stour between Sellinge and Ashford, and another near the sewage arm in New Romney.

The Met Office warns the rain won’t ease up until at least 9am, threatening more flooding and making journeys a nightmare.

Environment Agency Sounds the Alarm

A yellow weather warning covers much of Kent due to soaring water levels in several rivers, including the Medway, Darent, Eden, and Stour, plus parts of the Isle of Sheppey.

“River levels are forecast to rise quickly as a result of heavy rainfall. We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads close to the rivers across Kent,” said an Environment Agency spokesman.

Pedestrians are urged to avoid riverside footpaths while water levels remain dangerously high.

Rail Chaos: Landslide Triggers Week of Disruptions

Rail passengers aren’t spared from the weather mess either. A landslide last Friday shut the rail line at Newington, between Rainham and Sittingbourne. Repairs will take around a week.

Southeastern trains are running limited services with replacement buses between Sittingbourne, Newington, Rainham, and Gillingham. Expect amended schedules on routes from London Victoria to Gillingham, London St Pancras to Rochester, Sittingbourne to Dover Priory, and Sittingbourne to Ramsgate.

Warning: Drivers and commuters should brace for more chaos as storms batter Kent. Stay alert and stay safe!
