Kent Gears Up to Tackle Traffic Chaos at Port of Dover
Plans in Place to Keep Kent Moving
Simon Jones, KRF Strategic Planning Lead, has reassured locals that a multi-agency group is ready to handle any traffic disruption around the Port of Dover. Their well-drilled plans aim to protect residents and keep Kent’s roads flowing smoothly despite potential delays.
Port of Dover Open and Operating
Earlier on Thursday, Port of Dover warned of possible delays due to reduced sailings. However, as of 5pm, the port remains open with traffic moving well. Both DFDS and Irish Ferries are running normal services, providing some relief for travellers.
The special traffic scheme, TAP20, continues to regulate HGVs along the A20, managing heavy vehicle flow into the port.
Officials Urge Caution and Preparation
Simon Jones, Kent County Council’s Corporate Director for Growth, Environment and Transport, said: “Kent Resilience Forum partners, including the Department for Transport, Kent Police, and National Highways, are monitoring the situation closely.”
“We stand ready to work together to protect communities and keep Kent’s roads moving as best as possible.”
“We advise drivers passing through Kent to prepare for delays. Anyone travelling by ferry from Dover in the next five days should contact their operator before setting off.”
