Fire crews rushed to Trafalgar Road at 5.30pm Wednesday after reports of a gas smell in the building.

On arrival, they found an ammonia leak. The entire building was evacuated immediately, and a hazmat team was called in to tackle the toxic threat.

Neighbours Told to Stay Indoors

Local residents were warned to avoid their balconies as emergency teams worked to secure the area.

Hours-Long Operation Underway

Firefighters remained on site for several hours, ventilating the premises to bring ammonia levels down to safe limits.

After the clean-up, control of the building was handed back to maintenance crews to carry out repairs.
