Emergency crews rushed to Mermaid Beach near Folkestone after reports of a kayaker struggling at sea.
Lifeboat and Coastguard Launch Dramatic Search
A Littlestone RNLI lifeboat and Folkestone Coastguard search and rescue team were scrambled around 7pm, following an alert from the Folkestone National Coastwatch Institution (NCI).
The kayaker was spotted drifting about two miles offshore, raising serious concerns.
Coast Ops Centre Takes Command
The UK Coast Operations Centre in Dover is coordinating the unfolding rescue effort.
The lifeboat is heading out to investigate as the kayak continues to drift further from shore.
