Off-Duty Hero Firefighter Grady Nabbed Top Honour for Lifesaving Bravery
Quick-Thinking Firefighter Saves Driver’s Life
Firefighter Grady from Heston Fire Station has been handed the prestigious Assistant Commissioner’s Certificate of Commendation. The award celebrates his spot-on action and dedication to public safety. It came during the London Fire Brigade’s latest awards ceremony.
On his way home after a night shift, Grady stumbled upon a car crash. The driver was suffering a cardiac arrest. Without missing a beat, Grady launched into Basic Life Support. He cleared the airway and pumped the driver’s chest, battling to keep them alive.

But Grady didn’t stop there. He took charge, rallying bystanders to keep the scene safe. He also briefed the London Ambulance Service as they arrived, ensuring swift handover. Thanks to his rapid and expert intervention, the driver was revived, rushed to hospital, and discharged just two days later.
