BBC Boosts Drama Production in West Midlands

The BBC is ramping up its investment in drama outside London, with a fresh focus on the West Midlands. At least two major scripted series will be made locally each year, surpassing previous commitments.

The broadcaster plans to pour more cash into training and development over the next two years. This includes expanding BBC Writersroom initiatives to nurture authentic local voices and scripts, ensuring a new wave of homegrown drama.

BBC Chiefs Excited for Regional Growth

“The BBC is committed to investing in the West Midlands and this plan will create a future proof skills base in the region,” said Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer. “It will boost high impact content production with the arrival of the hugely popular hit series Silent Witness in 2024. I’m excited about the increased opportunities this will bring to the creative talent in the area.”
