M20 chaos: Lane closed after fiery crane lorry blaze!
Flames on the motorway
A sudden fire ripped through a crane lorry on the M20 last Friday afternoon, sparking a major emergency response. At around 3:45pm on January 5, four fire engines and crews with breathing apparatus were scrambled to tackle the blaze, which erupted after the lorry broke down on the hard shoulder.
Lingering lane closure
Although the fire was put out quickly and traffic initially resumed smoothly, the drama is far from over. Efforts to remove the charred crane lorry have dragged on, forcing a lane closure on the London-bound carriageway between Junction 2 (Wrotham) and Junction 1 (Swanley). This lane will remain shut until the burnt-out vehicle is fully cleared.
Traffic running smoothly despite restrictions
Commuters can breathe a sigh of relief as traffic officers manage the flow effectively. Despite the partial closure, reports suggest travel remains relatively smooth in the affected stretch.
Safety first during blaze
During the incident, emergency crews briefly halted traffic in both directions to tackle the fire safely and protect all road users. Their quick action stopped what could have been a far worse incident on the busy motorway.
