Burglary Terror: Intruder Caught After Smashing Into Home with Lighter in Hand
Warren Anthony Kennick, 35, smashed through a glass door to break into a Langley Moor home in the early hours of September 23 last year. The desperate victim was fast asleep upstairs when Kennick forced his way inside.
Victim Escapes Horrifying Encounter
Woken by a shadowy figure holding a lighter, the terrified tenant feared for his life. He fled through a bedroom window, leaving Kennick alone in the house.
Forensics Nail Burglar, Justice Served
Kennick, of Front Street, Shotton Colliery, was identified through forensic evidence found at the scene and on items he left behind. He was charged with burglary and appeared at Durham Crown Court last week.
The court sentenced him to 27 months behind bars.
Police Warn Against Home Invasions
“The victim was left understandably shaken by this incident, and is extremely happy to see justice served against the intruder,” said Detective Sergeant Sarah Hindmarsh. “Residents should feel safe at home. This result shows we won’t tolerate home invasions in our area.”
