Motorists are facing lengthy delays on the M3 near Winchester following a crash which forced the closure of the Southampton-bound carriageway. The collision happened on the southbound M3 between Junction 8 and Junction 9 for Winchester, leading to significant disruption on Sunday afternoon. The carriageway was initially closed following the incident while emergency services dealt with the collision. One of the two lanes has since reopened, allowing traffic to begin passing the scene. However, queues of around three miles have built up, with motorists currently facing delays of approximately 50 minutes. Drivers heading towards Winchester and Southampton are being advised to allow additional time for their journeys while congestion clears. The circumstances surrounding the collision and whether anybody has been injured have not yet been confirmed. Further traffic disruption is possible while recovery and clearance work continues.
