Huge Blaze Erupts on Portsdown Hill Near Portsmouth
A massive fire has broken out on Portsdown Hill, right on the outskirts of Portsmouth, this Friday evening. The blaze erupted at L and S Waste Management and rapidly spread, sending thick black smoke billowing across the skies. The smoke is so dense it’s visible all the way from the Isle of Wight, covering areas including Fareham and Portchester.
Fire Crews Battle Blazing Inferno
Firefighters from across Hampshire have rushed to the scene. Crews from Cosham, Havant, Southsea, and Hayling Island are all battling the flames. Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the emergency call was received at 6.50pm, and they expect to remain on site through the night. A spokeswoman said the blaze is “well developed” and has rapidly spread.
Roads Open But Smoke Causes Concern
The thick smoke is causing major concerns for drivers on the nearby M27 motorway. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, but the motorway remains open for now. Hampshire Constabulary are also on scene, assessing the impact and working with fire crews to keep the public safe.
Safety Warning to Locals
Residents in the affected areas are urged to keep windows and doors firmly shut to avoid inhaling the dangerous smoke. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far.
