Early Morning Blaze Hits Dover Flats – 42 Homes Evacuated
A major fire tore through a block of flats on Crabble Road, Dover, in the early hours of Sunday. Over 40 homes were swiftly evacuated as flames engulfed the multi-storey building, sparking a huge emergency response.
Fire Service Battles Huge Blaze
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) were called out at 1:10am to tackle the inferno. Twelve fire engines, two height vehicles, and their Technical Rescue team scrambled to the scene. Firefighters in breathing apparatus battled the intense flames through the night, working hard to stop the fire from spreading.
Residents Safe, Smoke Inhalation Cases Treated
Crews evacuated 42 flats, ensuring every resident was accounted for. The South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) treated two people for smoke inhalation. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.
The KFRS Volunteer Response Team helped support evacuees and firefighters, while Dover District Council is arranging emergency accommodation for those displaced.
Investigation Underway as Cause Remains Unknown
The fire’s origin is still a mystery. A full investigation is ongoing.
“Our crews responded swiftly to what was a complex and dangerous incident. Thanks to their efforts, all residents were safely evacuated and the fire was brought under control. Investigations into the cause are ongoing,” said a KFRS spokesperson.
Authorities are asking anyone with information or footage from the area around the time of the blaze to contact Kent Fire and Rescue or Kent Police.
