Fatal High-Powered Motorcycle Crash Shuts Major Kent-Sussex Road

A deadly smash involving a high-powered motorbike has shut the vital A2070 link between Kent and Sussex. Highways England confirmed a full police forensic probe is now underway.

Tragic Crash Near Ashford

The collision happened around 9pm on Tuesday, 12 August 2025 on the A2070, between the M20 Junction 10 and the A2042 near Ashford. Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is leading the inquiry.

Bystanders say the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene despite desperate efforts from paramedics and police. The bike was found a significant distance from where the crash happened.

Road Shut Both Ways, Traffic Chaos Ensues

The A2070 remains closed in both directions as crash investigators comb the scene. The closure is expected to last several hours, made worse by existing roadworks that have already forced diversions.

Locals are calling it a “total lockdown” as traffic between Kent and Sussex grinds to a halt.

Diversions Now in Force

  • Southbound (Hollow Triangle signs): Exit M20 at Junction 10 and head down A292 towards Ashford town centre. Then take Wellesley Road, Station Road, and Beaver Road (A2042). At the Romney Marsh Road roundabout, go eastbound on Bad Münstereifel Road to rejoin A2070 at Cloverleaf interchange.
  • Northbound (Hollow Diamond signs): Leave at Cloverleaf interchange onto A2042 towards Ashford town centre, then follow the southbound route in reverse.

Police Seek Witnesses and Dashcam Footage

Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service have been approached for statements. Anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage is urged to contact Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 when the appeal is issued.
