King Alfred Leisure Centre Pools to Stay Shut Until Easter
Bad news for Brighton swimmers! The pools at King Alfred Leisure Centre will remain closed until Easter, Brighton and Hove Council has confirmed.
Boiler Breakdown Leaves Pools Cold
The closure comes after the 40-year-old boilers and their control panel broke down, needing major repairs. Without heating or hot water, the pools had no choice but to shut.
Gym and Sports Facilities Still Open
Good news for fitness fans: the gym, sports halls, studios, and ballroom are still open for business. Freedom Leisure, which runs the centre, is offering options for suspended memberships and relocating swimming lessons. They promise regular updates for customers.
What’s Next?
Darryl Keech, Brighton and Hove Area Manager for Freedom Leisure, said: “We are very disappointed that we are not able to open the pool due to this technical failure. We are doing everything we can to repair the boiler system and its controls. We want to get the pool heated and open as soon as possible for the residents of Brighton and Hove.”
Despite the building’s age making maintenance harder, the centre remains popular. Work is underway with contractors and council officers to fix the issues until a new King Alfred/West Hub can be built.
