A brutal fight outside a Suffolk pub turned deadly last year. Richard Wingrove, 71, died after a violent clash involving four people outside the Wagon and Horses pub in Newmarket on March 8.
Tragic Pub Brawl Ends in Death
Emergency services rushed to Newmarket High Street at 3.40pm following reports of the altercation. Wingrove was found in critical condition and taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Despite paramedics’ efforts, Richard Wingrove died 10 days later on March 18.
Perp Pleads Guilty, Sentencing Set for June
Levi Williams, 26, from Holland Park, Newmarket, was first charged with murder. However, at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter instead. Williams was released on bail and will be sentenced on June 4.
Three Others Arrested, Released Under Investigation
- Williams was initially arrested for assault causing grievous bodily harm.
- A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
- A 45-year-old was arrested on suspicion of affray.
The other two suspects have been released under investigation as police continue their inquiries. Meanwhile, two other men injured in the fight were treated in the hospital and discharged.
