Man Collapses in Leicester with Hawk in Tow – Emergency Services Spring into Action
Emergency crews scrambled to Aylestone Meadows, Leicester, this week after reports of an unconscious man spotted with a hawk on a lead. Initially feared to be in cardiac arrest, police from the firearms and dogs unit arrived fast, backed by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS).
Unique Rescue: Police Handle Hawk to Save Patient
On arrival, officers quickly realised the man was a dedicated falconer, frequently seen around the area with his bird of prey. He had collapsed due to a medical condition and needed urgent help. But before paramedics could step in, someone had to calm the hawk first.
PC Will Adams, an expert dog handler, grabbed the moment. Wearing a protective glove, he gently coaxed the hawk onto his arm, securing the bird safely. This clever move let the ambulance team tend to the man without any risk.
Care for Hawk and Owner Goes Hand in Hand
The patient’s wife soon arrived but wasn’t comfortable handling the hawk. PC Adams stayed cool, calmly walking her home with the hawk perched securely on his arm, making sure the bird was cared for while her husband received treatment.
Swift Action Pays Off – Man Fully Recovers, Hawk Unharmed
Thanks to the quick-thinking emergency teams, the man has made a full recovery. Meanwhile, the hawk came through the ordeal unharmed and was safely returned to its owner.
