Man rescued and arrested after jumping into Portsmouth Harbour

A man has been arrested after jumping into harbour water on Wednesday night. The man failed to return on demands made by Police during a busy shipping period in which MV Boudicca was leaving with 300 veterans on board during the D Day anniversary event in Portsmouth A coastguard warning was put out and officers rushed to deal with the man who has swam out towards the centre of the shipping lane. Five Marine police boats and two coastguard crews were called to the incident later on Wednesday afternoon. The man was believed to be intoxicated was arrested and later taken into Police custody for questioning over the matter
