Manhunt Underway After Ruthless Hit-and-Run on Briddlesford Road

The Isle of Wight has been rocked by a serious hit-and-run crash on Briddlesford Road near Newport tonight (Thursday). Emergency services, including fire crews, paramedics, and police, rushed to the scene after a collision involving two silver cars – a Vauxhall and a BMW.

Driver Flees Scene, Manhunt Launched

The driver of one vehicle fled the scene, leaving those onboard injured and a woman trapped. A full-scale manhunt is now underway to track down the callous suspect.

Police have deployed a specialist search dog and the National Police Air Service helicopter to comb the area. DNA samples are also being collected as part of the investigation.

Firefighters Rescue Trapped Woman

Fire crews from Newport and Ryde worked quickly, using cutting equipment to free a woman trapped in the wreckage. She has sustained life-changing injuries and was treated by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and medics at the scene before being flown to Southampton General Hospital.

Four other people received treatment from paramedics, with at least one taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport.

Road Closed as Specialist Investigation Ongoing

Briddlesford Road remains closed both ways at the Blacklands Lane junction. A large blue tarpaulin hides the grim scene while specialist Collision Investigation officers from Havant sift through the wreckage and gather evidence.

Police warn drivers to avoid the area as the closure is expected to last into the early hours.

This is a developing story.
