Mary Rose Pop-Up Museum Hits Southsea Castle This Bank Holiday!

The beloved Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth is gearing up to reopen this summer. But first, families can get a sneak peek during a free pop-up event at Southsea Castle this bank holiday weekend.

Step Back in Time with Tudor Fun

On Sunday and Monday (29-30 May), the Mary Rose crew will bring Tudor history to life. Visitors can try their hand at archery and play Nine Men’s Morris — a game famously scratched onto a barrel lid aboard the Mary Rose ship.

  • Dress up as a Tudor
  • Handle fascinating artefacts
  • Join crew talks on life aboard the Mary Rose

And that’s not all — all the usual Southsea Castle attractions will be open for exploration.

Historic Venue for Historic Event

“We are absolutely delighted to be staging the last of our pop-up museum touring events before we re-open the Mary Rose Museum back home in Portsmouth,” said Paul Griffiths, head of operations at Mary Rose Museum. “Where better to host such a spectacle than at Southsea Castle, where on that fateful day in 1545 Henry VIII watched in horror as his flagship, the Mary Rose, sunk before his eyes in battle with the invading French fleet.”

“This two day event promises to be amazing and we hope as many people as possible will come down to take part in the fun.”

Don’t Miss Out!

The pop-up museum runs from 10am to 5pm on both days. Entry is free, making it a perfect family day out this bank holiday weekend.
