Yellow Ice Warning Slams Kent Tonight

The Met Office has slapped Kent with a yellow weather warning for ice as temperatures plunge below freezing tonight. The alert runs from 5pm this evening until 10am tomorrow, warning residents to brace for treacherous conditions.

Icy Roads and Slippery Pavements Ahead

The freezing snap threatens untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths across most of Kent and the South of England. Expect hazardous patches that could send commuters slipping and sliding.

“Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than usual,” advises a Met Office spokesperson. “Slowing down helps prevent accidents, slips, and falls.”

Motorists and cyclists are urged to stick to gritted main roads, while pedestrians should keep to main pavements to stay safe.

Emergency Services Sound The Alarm

Fire service officials warn that tonight and tomorrow morning will be the worst for icy dangers. Kent County Council confirmed gritters will hit roads from 8:30pm to tackle the ice as temperatures sink to -3°C.

“Please take extra care on roads across the county this evening and into tomorrow,” said a fire service spokesperson.

Help for Rough Sleepers and Vulnerable Residents

Medway Council has activated its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol, providing emergency shelter for rough sleepers. Anyone in need should contact Kingsley House in Gillingham on 01634 333600 or Freephone 0808 1641444 before 5pm today.

Residents are urged to check on vulnerable neighbours and family during this bitter snap.

Plan Your Journey and Stay Updated

The Met Office advises checking road conditions and transport schedules ahead of travel. Adjust plans if needed, and keep an eye on official updates online.

Stay sharp Kent — tonight’s freeze could make the morning commute a slippery nightmare!
