Storm Babet’s Wrath Isn’t Over: Met Office Warns of More Floods and Fierce Winds This Weekend
Yellow Warnings Hit Scotland, Northern Ireland, and South East England
Communities are still reeling from Storm Babet’s destruction, but the Met Office has just dropped another bombshell: yellow weather warnings for heavy rain and strong winds this weekend. Areas hit hardest – eastern Scotland, Northern Ireland, and South East England – face another deluge, with 50mm to 80mm of rain expected and winds gusting between 50mph and 70mph.
Transport Chaos and Flood Alerts Mount
In East Sussex, Hastings has already suffered flooding, forcing a nearby shopping centre evacuation. Scotland’s transport is in turmoil too. Train services between the Central Belt and Aberdeen/Inverness are suspended until Sunday. Passengers on LNER’s Edinburgh to Newcastle route should brace for delays. TransPennine Express and CrossCountry are cutting back timetables amid flood threats.
Storm Babet Death Toll and Ongoing Risks
Storm Babet has tragically claimed seven lives, and the threat isn’t over. New warnings cover eastern England, Kent, Sussex, and Essex from midnight Sunday to midnight Monday, with 15mm to 30mm of rain forecast. There are currently 39 tidal and river flood warnings, many targeting East Sussex and Kent. The already waterlogged ground means even more disruption could be on the cards.
Stay Alert: Authorities Urge Preparedness
The Met Office, emergency services, and local councils are monitoring conditions closely. Residents must stay alert, follow official updates, and prepare for worsening weather. The battle against Storm Babet’s aftermath continues – don’t get caught out.
