Asylum Seekers to Be Housed at Mercure Dolphin Hotel in Southampton

We can exclusively reveal that the Mercure Dolphin Hotel on High Street is set to house asylum seekers. The hotel has secured a booking until March 2022 with the option to extend further, as part of a new contract with the Home Office.

Record Number of Migrants Flooding UK

The move follows a surge in migrant crossings. Over the past two weeks, a record number of people have arrived on UK shores by boat. On Saturday alone, 886 migrants landed, pushing the total for 2021 to more than 25,700—over three times the figure for the whole of 2020, which was just 8,469.

Hotel Quiet on Details, Guests Left in Limbo

Owned by French company Mercure, the hotel has kept tight-lipped about the details of who will be housed. Those with current bookings at the hotel have been told to find alternative accommodation, as their reservations cannot be honoured at this time.
