Man Killed After Running Into Plane Engine at Milan Bergamo Airport

Chaos hit Milan Bergamo International Airport as flights were halted for nearly two hours following a shocking incident. A 35-year-old man was tragically sucked into the engine of a passenger plane while it was preparing for takeoff.

Runway Horror: Man Runs Into Plane Engine

The man, who was neither a passenger nor airport staff, voluntarily entered the engine of a Volotea Airlines flight bound for Asturias, Spain, police confirmed to UKNIP.

  • He drove the wrong way toward the terminal access road.
  • Abandoned his car, ran through arrivals, and accessed the runway by an emergency exit.
  • Despite efforts from airport security and police, he reached the aircraft and ran into the spinning engine, suffering fatal injuries.

Airport Grounded as Investigation Gets Underway

Operations at the airport were suspended from 10:20am to noon local time (9:20am–11:00am UK time). The airport initially called it a “problem on the taxiway.”

Volotea Flight V73511 was delayed and rescheduled to depart at 3:55pm local time. Officials confirmed all 154 passengers and six crew members were safe, and the plane was taken out of service for a safety check.

Volotea Issues Statement

“We regret to confirm flight V73511 from BGY to OVD was involved in an incident at Milan-Bergamo Airport at 10:35h. One person not onboard and not affiliated with the company was seriously injured. All 154 passengers and 6 crew are safe. We are doing everything possible to support those affected, providing psychological assistance while working closely with Italian authorities.”

Police Probe Motive, Terrorism Ruled Out

Italian police are leading the investigation, working to identify the man and uncover his motive. Early signs show no terrorist links. Authorities suspect he may have been suffering from mental health issues.

Flights Resume With Delays

Flights resumed after midday, with normal operations restored. However, several outbound flights faced delays and rescheduling throughout the afternoon.
