Dartford Tunnel SHUT after multi-vehicle smash sparks chaos and massive delays!
Crash Brings Tunnel to Standstill
The Dartford Tunnel was temporarily closed following a multi-vehicle pile-up on the A282 eastbound approach at around 2pm today (April 4). The crash forced emergency services to shut the tunnel and surrounding lanes, causing heavy disruption in the area.
Authorities Act Fast to Clear the Scene
National Highways (@HighwaysSEAST) quickly imposed closures between junction 1b and the tunnel, urging drivers to find alternative routes. By just before 2:30pm, all lanes and the east tunnel reopened after vehicles were recovered, but lingering tailbacks of up to 60 minutes remain.
Gridlock Extends Along M25 and Beyond
The AA maps service reports severe delays stretching back on the M25 anticlockwise from J1A A206 (Dartford) to J31 A1306 (Lakeside/Purfleet), with congestion spilling over to J3 at the M20 Swanley interchange. Travel times around that stretch currently hover around 30 minutes.
Safety and Updates
Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance are investigating the crash and any injuries involved. Drivers are warned to stay alert, follow official advice, and keep an eye on traffic updates to avoid getting stuck in the jams.
