Neighbours’ quick thinking saves bungalow from early morning blaze in Dover!

Woman’s quick wits spot sparks and smoke

At 4.36am on Station Road, St Martins Hill, Dover, a woman was jolted awake by a strange noise she thought was her wheelie bin being moved. Instead, she spotted sparks and smoke billowing from the garage opposite.

Husband alerts vulnerable neighbours

Her husband dashed across the road to warn the elderly residents of the bungalow. Thanks to the warning, the older couple was safely escorted next door, away from danger.

Fire crews douse garage fire swiftly

Kent Fire and Rescue Service scrambled two engines to the scene. Firefighters found the fire sparked by a faulty consumer unit, which ignited nearby items. They quickly cut the power and tackled the blaze with hose reels and powder extinguishers.

They also checked the garage roof void to ensure the flames hadn’t spread.

Smoke alarms fitted during safety visit

Before leaving just before 7am, crews carried out a safe and well visit, fitting working smoke alarms to help prevent future incidents.
