Drone Drama Sparks Gatwick Flight Diversions
Chaos hit Gatwick Airport on Sunday afternoon as multiple flights were diverted to Stansted following reports of possible drone sightings.
EasyJet and British Airways Flights Rerouted
- EasyJet flights from Amsterdam and Barcelona were first diverted to Stansted before taking off again to finally land at Gatwick.
- A British Airways flight from Heraklion was also rerouted to Stansted.
- All flights landed around 90 minutes later than scheduled.
No More Diversions Expected, Officials Say
A Gatwick spokesman confirmed: “We do not anticipate any further diversions on Sunday.”
Remembering Last Year’s Drone Shutdown Nightmare
Last time drones struck Gatwick, the airport faced a brutal 33-hour shutdown. Thousands of passengers were left stranded while a massive police and Army operation tried to end the disruption.
Since then, Gatwick has invested heavily in new technology and developed its own drone detection system to stop future chaos. Fingers crossed this latest scare doesn’t snowball!
