Pub Panic as Ceiling Crashes Down at Newport's Slug and Lettuce
The Slug and Lettuce in Newport remains shut after part of the ceiling dramatically collapsed, sending glasses smashing and forcing a quick evacuation.
Ceiling Collapse Sparks Chaos
The drama unfolded on Sunday afternoon when a section of the ceiling, along with shelves, bottles, and glasses, crashed down behind the bar. Customers were left stunned as electrical wiring and insulation dangled dangerously in the wreckage.
An eyewitness said, “We were in the Slug and Lettuce around 2pm when the poor barmaid was caught right behind the bar as the entire ceiling came down. Despite being shocked, she quickly acted to make sure everyone was safe and called management.”
Repairs Underway but Closure Continues
Contractors for the national chain are now racing against time to fix the damage and reopen the popular spot. The venue’s manager confirmed, “We have had a structural issue at the site and have been forced to close. We will know more this afternoon about how long the closure will last. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
