O2 Mobile Data Outage Hits Thousands Across UK
O2 customers across the UK were left offline on Monday morning as a major mobile data outage swept the network. The glitch kicked off just after 10:30am, triggering nearly 1,000 complaints on Downdetector, the real-time outage tracker. The problem peaked around 11:30am when over 700 users were actively reporting issues.
O2 Confirms Nationwide Outage, Advises Fixes
O2 quickly acknowledged the disruption in a public statement, apologising for the inconvenience. The message read: “Sorry if you’re having 123 should still be working as normal.” While the wording was unclear, O2 urged affected customers to toggle airplane mode on and off to help restore service.
The outage didn’t just hit O2 users—customers of 1 Mobile and GiffGaff, which run on O2’s network, also faced similar data blackouts.
Priority App Also Down
The drama extended to the hit-or-miss O2 Priority app, known for exclusive customer rewards. Social media users slammed the app after it failed to display winnings from the “Blue Monday” draw. One frustrated user tweeted:
“The Priority app Blue Monday draw didn’t show me what I won, so I couldn’t claim anything. All I got was a blue screen.”
O2 confirmed the problem affected a small proportion of customers and that services had since been restored. The telco apologised and told customers to monitor network status via the O2 website or the My Network app.
Tesco Mobile and GiffGaff Also Struggle
Since Tesco Mobile and GiffGaff run on the O2 network, customers of those providers also reported service drops. One Tesco user took to Twitter, asking:
“Is @tescomobile down or something??”
Both networks briefly suffered disruptions, but services have now resumed.
Could You Get Compensation?
If you were hit by the outage, you might be in line for a refund or account credit, depending on your contract. O2 offers troubleshooting guides and a formal complaints process through their complaints page. Customers have 28 days to respond to O2’s resolution before the case closes.
Stay updated and check network status regularly to avoid surprises.
