Ernie joined the National Fire Service right after the war in 1946. He later moved to the london-fire.gov.uk" target="_blank" rel="noopener" title="London Fire Brigade" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">London Fire Brigade, spending most of his career at Poplar fire station.
