One Dead After Massive Explosion and Fire in Lincoln
A deadly explosion has rocked De Wint Avenue in Lincoln, leaving one person dead and two others injured. Emergency services rushed to the scene after terrified residents reported a huge fireball shooting from the former Co-op building in the Moorland area.
Explosion Sparks Huge Blaze
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue received the emergency call at around 4.30pm. Witnesses described hearing a loud explosion, followed by flames bursting through the shopfront windows of the old resource centre on De Wint Avenue.
Neighbours ran for safety and quickly raised the alarm while the fire ripped through the ground floor shop and the flat above. Massive clouds of smoke and flames billowed from the building, prompting a heavy emergency response.
Massive Emergency Response Underway

- Three main jets and multiple hose reels tackling the blaze
- Six firefighters in breathing apparatus working to contain fire and prevent spread to neighbouring buildings
- Thermal imaging cameras used to locate fire source
- Police and ambulance crews on scene, treating two men for burns and smoke inhalation
- Road closures in place around De Wint Avenue, Shannon Avenue, Boswell Drive, and Webster Close
Casualties, Animals Rescued, and Ongoing Search
Tragically, one person has died following the explosion. Two others are receiving treatment for burns and smoke inhalation. Police believe four people were inside the building at the time and are still searching for a missing individual.
Firefighters also rescued several animals, including a dog, a chinchilla, and a guinea pig, bringing them out safely in cages.
“The fire has now been brought under control. We have 50 firefighters at the scene and other support staff. We are likely to remain at the scene for a number of hours,” said Dave Gilbert from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.
The cause of the explosion is still unknown. Lincolnshire Police are leading the investigation in partnership with the fire service.
Emergency Services Urge Locals to Avoid Area
Authorities have cordoned off both ends of De Wint Avenue and urged motorists to steer clear and find alternate routes as recovery efforts continue.
