Explosion Rocks St Helier, Jersey
An explosion near Pier Road in St Helier has left around a dozen people missing, with two others described as “walking wounded” currently receiving hospital treatment.
Chaos and Damage Across the Island
The blast, heard across Jersey, sent a huge plume of smoke rising from the Mount Bingham area. Debris scattered widespread, littering Commercial Buildings and stretching towards St Helier Harbour. Windows shattered at nearby homes, and some residents have been evacuated to the Town Hall for safety.
Police Launch Massive Search and Rescue
Jersey Police quickly cordoned off large parts of the capital. Pier Road, the Pier Road car park, and South Hill remain closed as authorities handle the emergency. Officials have urged the public to steer clear of the area.
Chief of Police Robin Smith warned, “I expect the search and rescue effort to take a number of days.”
The incident was first reported just before 4 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, with police confirming, “We are currently dealing with an incident on Pier Road, St Helier.”
