Operation Brock to End as Easter Traffic Dies Down

The contraflow system known as Operation Brock on the M20 is set to be switched off after keeping traffic ticking over smoothly during the busy Easter weekend. The system, covering 13 miles between Junction 8 (Maidstone) and Junction 9 (Ashford), was rolled out last month by highway chiefs to tackle expected congestion.

M20 Lane Closures to Remove Contraflow

With the holiday rush now over, Operation Brock will be dismantled. To make way for this, overnight closures are planned:

  • London-bound lanes closed from Junction 9 to Junction 8
  • Coastbound lanes closed from Junction 7 to Junction 9

These shutdowns will run from 8 pm Sunday through to 6 am Monday.

Diversions and Return to Normal on M20

National Highways has promised clear diversion signs along the A20 to guide drivers safely during the closures. Once the contraflow is lifted, both carriageways will reopen fully with three lanes each and the national speed limit restored.

Strict Rules for HGVs Heading to Dover and Eurotunnel

Operation Brock was a vital traffic management tool for busy periods on the M20, especially for HGVs bound for the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel. Vehicles must stick to official signed routes or face harsh penalties.

“Failure to follow designated routes can lead to a £300 fine for EU-bound HGVs and being sent to the back of the queue by police,” a National Highways spokesperson warned.

This clampdown also targets hauliers trying to dodge queues via alternative routes like the M2/A2 at Brenley Corner.

As the M20 returns to normal after Easter, motorists are urged to heed all official signs and follow designated routes to keep journeys safe and smooth.
