Fire Crew Issues Urgent Bonfire Safety Warning
Following the incident, fire chiefs are urging the public to exercise caution when lighting bonfires or barbecues in gardens. Here’s their vital safety advice:
- Build bonfires well away from buildings, sheds, fences, hedges, and overhanging branches.
- Keep bonfires to a manageable size and stack them so they collapse inwards as they burn.
- Always have a bucket of water or hosepipe close by for emergencies.
- Never leave a bonfire unattended and make sure it’s fully extinguished once done.
- If a bonfire gets out of control and sets property or foliage alight, ring 999 immediately.
Stay safe this season and avoid turning a cosy night into a crisis.
