Train Chaos in New Forest – All services halted after a person was hit by a train between Southampton Central and Brockenhurst this afternoon, South Western Railway confirms.
Major Disruption Hits New Forest Rail Line
The tragic incident happened just before 3:30pm, sparking a swift response from emergency teams and railway support. All lines between Southampton and Brockenhurst are completely blocked, with disruptions expected to last until at least 10pm tonight.
A South Western Railway spokesperson said:
“We have received reports that a person has been struck by a train between Southampton Central and Brockenhurst. Our response teams are working with the emergency services to assist with the incident. In order to allow emergency services access to the railway, all power to the track will need to be switched off in the affected area.”
Replacement Travel Plans Launched
Due to the closure, all trains between Bournemouth and Southampton have been cancelled. Passengers are advised to use extensive alternative travel options. Rail tickets are being accepted on multiple bus and coach services at no extra cost to help stranded travellers.

- Two express buses from Southampton Central to Bournemouth via Brockenhurst, running from around 3:45pm with shuttle options afterwards.
- One bus service from Bournemouth to Southampton, stopping at Brockenhurst, starting at the same time.

“We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey,” South Western Railway added.

Details on the condition of the person involved remain unclear. Emergency crews are still at the scene, and power to the affected track section remains switched off to allow the operation to continue safely.
