Officer Struck While Stopping Suspicious Car
A West Yorkshire Police officer was injured after being rammed by a car during a daring incident in Ovenden, near Halifax, on Thursday, November 7. The officer attempted to stop a suspicious black Mercedes A180 just before noon on Ovenden Way heading towards Lee Mount.
The drama escalated on Vegal Crescent when the officer approached the Mercedes on foot. Instead of cooperating, the driver reversed at speed, hitting the officer before fleeing the scene.
The injured officer was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Suspect Flees, Car Abandoned, Two Arrested
The rogue Mercedes was later found abandoned on Moorside Gardens after a frantic dash via Nursery Lane, Keighley Road, and Shay Lane. Police located the vehicle around 12:15 pm.
Following an investigation, two males aged 16 and 19 were arrested. Both have been bailed pending further inquiries.
Police Urge Public to Help
Detectives are hunting for more leads and have called on the public to come forward with:
- CCTV or dashcam footage of the Mercedes before, during, or after the incident.
- Information identifying the car’s driver.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Smith, Calderdale District Police, said: “This was clearly a dangerous incident where an officer, doing their job, ended up injured and taken to hospital. We are determined to identify everyone involved and hold them accountable.”
