Tragic Discovery at Rudyard Lake: Missing Teen Found Dead
The body of a missing 17-year-old boy was recovered from Rudyard Lake in Staffordshire after a desperate search by police and rescue teams.
Emergency Call Sparks Overnight Search
Staffordshire Police sprang into action following a distress call about three teens spotted in the water near Leek shortly after 9:30pm on Saturday. Two of the boys, also around 17, managed to get out but were rushed to hospital for treatment by West Midlands Ambulance paramedics.
Specialist Teams Recover Boy’s Body
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue, alongside specialist police units, scoured the lake until the missing boy’s body was found just after 5pm on Sunday. Police have confirmed they aren’t treating the death as suspicious and have assigned officers to support the bereaved family.
Chief Inspector Mark Barlow: “Our thoughts and condolences are very much with the boy’s family at this distressing time. The officers and emergency services worked tirelessly through the night to bring this tragic situation to a close.”
Public Asked to Respect Cordon as Investigation Continues
Authorities have sealed off the lake area, urging the public to avoid the vicinity while investigations proceed. The Rudyard Lake Trust announced on Facebook that the park and facilities will remain closed until further notice.
Chief Inspector Barlow added thanks to the public for respecting the cordon during the operation and stressed the focus is now on supporting the grieving family.
Community Mourns Loss
Local councillor Joe Porter took to social media, saying, “That’s awful news. Praying for all those involved.” The National Police Air Service aided the initial search but have since withdrawn.
