Police Vehicle Stop in W2 Won’t Be Probed by IOPC
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has decided not to launch a full investigation into a police stop in W2 by Met officers. Instead, the complaint has been handed back to the Metropolitan Police for further scrutiny.
Met’s Professional Standards to Lead Internal Review
The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards will now take charge of the inquiry. The complainant has been officially informed of this move.
Incident Details: Early Morning Traffic Stop
- Armed officers were patrolling in a marked vehicle around 4am on Sunday, 14 August.
- They spotted a car heading east on the A40 Westway and suspected the driver was texting behind the wheel.
- Officers signalled for the car to stop, but it kept going, prompting them to call for backup.
- The driver finally pulled over about five minutes later at 1 Terrace, W2.
- Police explained the reason for the stop before letting the car continue on its way.
Social Media Footage Sparks Complaint
Police are aware of social media videos showing part of the stop. “Given the public interest, we recorded this as a formal complaint and voluntarily referred it to the IOPC,” said a Met spokesperson.
