Tragedy at Wilford Road Canal as man found dead
Man in his 60s found lifeless by canal
Police rushed to a canal near Wilford Road yesterday morning after a member of the public spotted a man in distress. Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after 8am on Saturday, 15 October.
Death remains unexplained
The circumstances surrounding the man’s death are still a mystery. Nottinghamshire Police say the death is being treated as unexplained, with no immediate suspicion of foul play.
Detective Inspector issues public appeal
“Our investigation is continuing but we are appealing for anyone who was on the canal tow path who may have seen the man between Friday night (14 October) and Saturday morning (15 October) to please get in touch,” said Detective Inspector Kayne Rukas.
“The man is described as white, in his 60s, with a bushy grey beard and was wearing all black clothing.”
“We are not suggesting at this stage that the man’s death was suspicious, but we need to find out what led to it. Any information, no matter how small, could be crucial.”
“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go to the man’s family and friends at this difficult time. Our officers will continue to support them.”
