Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust Bags £27,000 to Boost Baby Safety
Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust has snapped up £27,000 to ramp up safety for mums and babies. The cash will fund vital maternal and fetal monitoring gear plus state-of-the-art simulation kit for training staff to handle obstetric emergencies. This is part of a nationwide £2million push to make NHS maternity care among the safest in the world.
Government Targets Half of Baby & Maternal Deaths by 2030
The Department of Health is splashing millions across trusts from Gateshead to Taunton and Somerset. The aim? To slash stillbirths, neonatal deaths, maternal deaths, and brain injuries during or shortly after birth by 50% come 2030. Portsmouth’s Director of Midwifery, Gill Walton, praised the funding:
“This will make a huge difference in terms of the care we can offer women. Any additional equipment helps to make care safer and we are delighted to receive this additional funding.”
Health Minister Pushes for World-Class Maternity Care
Health Minister Ben Gummer said:
“It is my ambition to ensure the NHS is one of the safest places in the world to have a baby. Our staff do an excellent job providing high quality care but it is vital that they have the right equipment to continue to do this.”
He added:
“I am determined to ensure we do everything we can to reduce the number of families going through the heartache of stillbirth, neonatal death, maternal death and brain injury occurring during or soon after birth.”
