Firefighters Bring the Heat at UKRO Regional Challenge in Reading
A family fun day at Whitley Wood Fire Station in Reading turned into an action-packed showcase as the UKRO Regional Challenge kicked off on Saturday, 25th June. Hosted by Royal Berks Fire and Rescue Service, the event drew fire crews from across the UK despite looming rain and flash flood warnings — but luckily, the weather stayed clear.
Top Crews Battle It Out in Rescue Skills Showdown
Teams arrived from far and wide, including Hereford and Worcester, London, South Wales, Cornwall, and nearby Hampshire. They demonstrated jaw-dropping extrication and trauma rescue skills right in front of the public, proving just how vital their work is.
Exciting Fire Engines and Family Fun Galore
- Fire Alpha II Rescue Boat: Ready to tackle Thames emergencies.
- Heavy Rescue Unit: Specialist in heavy vehicle road traffic collisions.
- Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP): Used to blast water from above fires in high-rise blocks.
These impressive machines were crowd favourites, entertaining families and fire buffs alike.
Food, Fun and Life-Saving Lessons
Between the intense rescue challenges, youngsters enjoyed ice cream from a van while adults savoured a sizzling barbecue. Firefighters also gave hands-on CPR lessons, sharing life-saving skills with visitors.
The day was a brilliant blend of serious skill and family fun – proving the bravery of the UK Fire and Rescue Service is matched only by their community spirit.
