Kent Fire and Rescue Service pulled off a dramatic rescue after a man and his pug plunged into the River Medway near New Hythe Lane, Larkfield.

The cheeky pug, off its lead, jumped from a path down 12 feet into the river below. The owner immediately dived in to save his four-legged friend but found himself stuck, unable to climb the steep river wall.

Firefighters Launch Bold River Rescue

Several fire engines and a water safety team raced to the scene. Fire crews quickly sprang into action, spotting the pair clinging to a metal pole. They lowered a rescue bag, placing the pup inside before hauling it to safety.

Next, a rescue sling was dropped for the man, who was carefully hoisted out of the water with no injuries reported.

The dog was taken to the vet for a check-up, but thankfully is fine. Firefighters issued a stern warning: keep dogs on leads near water, no matter how obedient, to avoid risky rescues like this.
