Brilliant Save! Fire Boss Hails Quick-Thinking Staff After Chip Shop Blaze
A fire broke out at a popular Isle of Wight chip shop this evening, but thanks to lightning-fast action from staff, disaster was averted.
Smoke Signals Panic: Fire Erupts at Wootton Chip Shop
Just after 6pm, thick smoke poured from the front door of the chip shop, sparking a rapid response. Fire crews from across the Isle scrambled to the scene with three pumping appliances, an aerial ladder platform, and a command unit.
Blaze Believed to Start in Fryer, Fire Spreads Upwards
Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue’s Duty Manager Graham Orchard revealed the fire started in one of the fryers on the ground floor. It quickly spread up through the kitchen ducting and beyond.
“The fire broke out of the ground floor of the fish and chip shop and appears to have spread upwards through the kitchen ducting and spread from there. Crews are currently using a thermal imaging camera that will give us advance notice of any flare-ups. The fire is to all intense and purposes out but we are making sure that it has not spread unseen.”
Staff Heroics Prevent Serious Injury
Thankfully, no one was hurt. The chip shop was occupied but staff sprang into action. “They did all the correct things,” said the fire spokesman, “even isolating the gas supply before our arrival.”
Smoke damaged two empty flats above the shop, but crews used thermal imaging to check the upper floors and confirm the fire hadn’t spread further.
Quick thinking and professional fire crews stopped what could have been a much worse disaster in its tracks.
