Eastbourne Welcomes Historic Lifeboat ‘Esme Anderson’ for New Coastal Rescue Era
Legendary Lifeboat Returns to Duty After 30 Years
Eastbourne’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has rolled out the red carpet for its latest hero of the seas – the ‘Esme Anderson’ 14-02. This All Weather Lifeboat, fresh from nearly three decades of service at Ramsgate, made a grand arrival at Sovereign Harbour on February 10, 2024. It marks a proud new chapter in Eastbourne’s rich lifesaving legacy.
Grand Welcome Despite Rain-Soaked Cheers
The ‘Esme Anderson’ didn’t sail in quietly. It was escorted by the station’s own D Class Inshore Lifeboat ‘David H’, the current All Weather Lifeboat ‘Henry Heys Duckworth’, and backup crews from Hastings and Newhaven lifeboat stations. Despite a soggy downpour, a determined crowd of volunteers, supporters, and locals gathered to witness the spectacular welcome.
Thanks from the Heart of the Station
“On behalf of everyone at Eastbourne Lifeboat Station, I’d like to thank all those who came out in the rain to cheer and welcome the arrival of our new station All Weather Lifeboat,” said Station Mechanic James Wishman.
The ‘Esme Anderson’ is set to bolster Eastbourne’s lifesaving efforts, reinforcing the town’s standing as a critical coastal rescue hub.
